With so much contradicting information on the internet, Im often asked for info on essential oils and aromatherapy. My goal as an educator and as a certified aromatherapist is to point people in the right direction to find accurate information. So, the first thing I’m going to talk about is where NOT to research information at.With the number of direct sales companies on the rise, and sales reps that are limited in their knowledge, the majority are not educated at all in the field of aromatherapy- It is no surprise there is so much illegitimate information on the topic as well as safety concerns!
There is a plethora of beneficial botanicals readily available, but it is of utmost importance to know how to utilize them safely and effectively.
These are a couple of the most common sources you do NOT want to rely on when making your decisions:
1. Random blogs- ask yourself who is publishing this information and what is their background? Are they educated on Essential oil knowledge and certified in Aromatherapy or are they a sales rep for a company?
2. Pinterest– Social media websites such as these are full of graphics with essential oil recipes and uses. Many are not safe for everyone. Again asking yourself where is the information coming from.
So the question is where can you find accurate aromatherapy information? This is what I tell my students:
1. Speak to a Certified Aromatherapist that is trained in essential oil safety. They have to go through a long process of training including the study of aromatic chemistry, anatomy and physiology and develop case studies. These individuals are trained to help others by developing individualized aromatic programs through consultations.
2. Aromatherapy websites that I highly recommend for reference:
My top 2 reputable companies that I highly recommend for quality oils and Aromatherapy Products are:
Barefut– Their essential oils are sourced from over 35 countries around the world. Barefut’s essential oils are 100% pure, therapeutic; organically grown, ethically produced and free from chemicals or pesticides. Their oils do not contain fillers, additives, or any other type of dilution. Every batch of essential oil is GC/MS tested and analyzed by chemists of Essential Oil University under the direction of Dr. Robert Pappas. I love Barefut! Visit their website to see their entire line here.
Simply Earth- Simply Earth donates 13% of its profits to organizations that are on the front lines of fighting human trafficking. Their oils are Ethically Sourced, GC/MS tested and contain no additives. Use this code to receive a free $40 gift card with the purchase of your subscription box: FERNANDAFREE
The wonderful healing art of Aromatherapy has a wide array of uses and benefits. However, it is not a one size fits all. We are unique individuals. What works best for one person may not be the best approach for another. This is why it is crucial to extract the information from the right sources.
